Self-Reliance = Success through Competency-Based Education

Trust was something Emily Levasseur had to learn to do in high school when her district, RSU2 in Central Maine, made the transition to competency-based education. But trust in herself and others wasn’t the only thing she learned. Her experiences in RSU2’s competency-based environment included:

  • Practicing self-reliance and self-assessment
  • Cultivating civic and social responsibility and an appreciation for diversity
  • Learning how to manage her time and collaborate with others
  • To think critically about what she was learning and why
